Can't login to admin.google.com

This is expected behavior and a deliberate security feature by Google Workspace, not a glitch in your Okta configuration. You do not need to make any changes in Okta.

When you were a standard user, Google routed your login through Okta. However, once you are elevated to a Super Admin, Google intentionally blocks Single Sign-On (SSO) redirection when you try to access admin.google.com.

Why this happens:

Google forces Super Admins to authenticate directly with their Google credentials at the admin portal. This is designed to ensure that if your Identity Provider (Okta) is ever compromised, an attacker cannot automatically gain complete control over your entire Google Workspace environment.

Because you have always logged in via Okta, you likely don't know your direct Google Workspace password, or one was never explicitly given to you.

How to fix it

Your manager (or another existing Super Admin) needs to take one of two actions:

• Option A: Reset your Google Password. They can log into the Google Admin console, reset your Google Workspace password manually, and give it to you securely. You will use this specific password when prompted at admin.google.com (not your Okta password).
• Option B: Create a Dedicated Admin Account (Recommended). Security best practices strongly recommend against making your daily-use account a Super Admin. Your manager should ideally revoke Super Admin access from your everyday account and create a separate, dedicated admin account (e.g., admin.yourname@yourdomain.com) with its own direct Google password.

When you access the admin portal in the future, simply enter your email and the direct Google password, bypassing Okta completely.
