Given the changes to support for trial accounts (https://support.okta.com/help/s/article/workforce-identity-cloud-free-trial-account-support-policy-change), it seems impossible to contact support to request a change to the subdomain of the trial account.
Has anyone been able to do this? If so, can you please share how?

Opening a support ticket is a feature available to paid accounts, as stated in the policy change article you linked.
Additional features like changing the subdomain are available to paid accounts upon request. However, some features may imply an additional cost.
