Unable to Sync Password with Office 365
  • Authentication federation set to SWA
  • Provisioning configured to sync passwords

 

I assigned a license to a group and assigned a user to it.

The user was created in Entra ID, so I attempted to log in with that user.

However, I cannot log in to Entra ID.

If anyone knows a possible reason for this, please let me know.

    Since the application is setup as SWA was the correct password setup when you first login using the Office application?

    If the account is created from Okta and Password sync is enabled, there should not be an issue.

    Have you tried reseting the Okta password and trying to login again?

    Thank you for your response! I’m now able to log in.

    This might be an odd question, but I’d like to ask one more thing.

     

    Is there a way to confirm whether the password is being reflected in Entra ID when I select WS-Federation and configure password synchronization?

     

    To verify this, I tried the following steps, but I’m struggling because it didn’t work as expected.

     

    1.Selected WS-Federation

    Enabled password synchronization

    Results:

    Selected an M365 app from the dashboard:

    It works fine.

    Accessed M365 directly:

    Logged in via Okta ⇒ M365 apps are usable.

     

    2.Changed WS-Federation to SWA (Secure Web Authentication)

    Kept password synchronization as is

    Results:

    Selected an M365 app from the dashboard:

    The Entra ID login screen prompts for login, but after entering the password, it asks for login again. The app is unusable.

    Accessed M365 directly:

    The Entra ID login screen prompts for login, but after entering the password, it asks for login again. The app is unusable.

     

    If my understanding of this is fundamentally wrong, I’d greatly appreciate your guidance.

      Hello @ShoichiroK.00155 (LAC Co., Ltd)​ The issue could be that since the app was configured with SSO and then was switched to SWA, so the user initially does not have a password in Office and because of that the password could not work.

      I would recommend to open a case with Support for additional troubleshooting.
