Why do we sometimes see a kerberos authentication prompt for several seconds when accessing Okta

Since implementing ADSSO we sometimes see a kerberos authentication prompt when accessing Okta. The intranet sites list has been updated and the Automatic logon only in Intranet zone is set. What else would be causing this prompt? It lasts for over ten seconds unless cancelled.
