A former employer used Okta authentication to access microsoft office 365. For some reason, the authentication page continues to pop up, over and over, know that I'm working elsewhere. I can't seem to resolve this and when I contact them, they said they can't help me as I'm no longer in their system and this is my personal laptop. I've searched the knowledge base and tried all I can but nothing seems to help at all.

If the old domain is still pop-ing up after clear credentials, that means the old domain is still logged/setup in your application. That needs to be removed from the settings.
I have completely removed Office, restarted my laptop and re-installed Office 365 from my active current account. I've checked every setting and credential I can. I've removed all traces of anything that says 'okta' from my laptop. But it still won't stop. It pops up over and over again every three or four minutes while I'm working and if I accidentally don't dismiss it just right, whatever I'm working on freezes and I have to force quit that app.
