pe0me (pe0me) asked a question.

Is it possible to set a Static passcode for Multi-factor authentication(SMS/EMAIL) for automation feasibility?

We would like to have a static passcode generated for Multi Factor Authentication to Automate the OKTA Authentication flow as a part of our automation Testing.

Is it possible to set a static passcode getting generated in OKTA multi-factor authentication (SMS/EMAIL)? Can someone help us to check the feasibility and let us know is there any option to set a static passcode in OKTA MFA.

Note: As of now, Dynamic passcode gets generated in OKTA MFA(SMS/EMAIL) which is a blocker for us to automate the testcase.

Hello @pe0me (pe0me) Thank you for reacting out to our Community!

At this time this is not possible, the codes generated for SMS or Email are unique and always changing. If they would be static then that would be a security risk and we would not recommend to use a static value for an MFA.

Hi @Paul S. (Okta, Inc.) , Thanks for your reply!!

we have few queries with respect to OKTA MFA via., SMS/Email

    1. We are planning to automate OKTA MFA via., SMS/EMAIL to one of our customer(Bank) , For Automation Point for view, its difficult for us to automate with Dynamic passcode which gets changed each and everytime. Is there any option to make passcode as "Static" only for automation testing. Later on, while delivering it to customer, it will changed to Dynamic passcode. This is only for time being, Any possible configuration can be done for testing?
    2. Since are we receiving OKTA MFA passcode via., SMS/EMAIL, its getting difficult to fetch the passcode from Email and SMS during automation testing. Do we have any separate OKTA MFA URL where the SMS/EMAIL passcode gets displayed in UI screen? So that passcode can be taken from UI screen and used for Automation input detail.

Also let us know if any other configuration can be done for Static passcode.

    Inputs are welcome!!!

Unfortunately, there is no way to setup Static MFA for SMS/Email at all. In this case what I can recommend is that you use Security Question as that will have a static value and everyone can use.

@Paul S. (Okta, Inc.)  Thanks for you input. Is it possible to schedule a meeting with OKTA technical support team to discuss on few queries related to OKTA MFA. If yes, let us know the procedure or contact person's email id to connect with to schedule a call.

Also, we would be happy if your presence is there during the discussion.

You can open a case with support and schedule a meeting with a Support engineer. However since I am not part of Support, I can not join the meeting. But they will be more then happy to provide you the required assistance.

To open a case please see this link: https://support.okta.com/pkb_Help
