Outlook prompts for password at first login and after password change
Hi,

My clients Office 365 domain is federated with Okta and SSO is setup, this works great for all web apps.

When using Outlook for the first time they have to logon to Office 365 to confirm the license and also logon when their password is changed.

I know this question was asked 3 years but has anyone got a work around for this now?

Thanks

Ben

  • Hi Ben,

    Thanks for contacting Okta.

I believe what you do need in this case is Office 365 Silent Activation.

Okta Office 365 Silent Activation allows for a seamless experience for accessing Microsoft Office. Using Okta as an identity provider, this option enables silent activation for shared workstation or VDI environments. Once your end users have logged into a domain-joined Windows machine, no further activation steps are required:

    Thanks for the info.

I've got the feature enabled and setup the clients system.

The pre-requiresites are setup and Okta configured.

    The sign-in box still appears.

I couldn;t see any info on the IWA version, they use 1.10. currently.

Azure AD Connect was setup for SSO already, would this have an effect on the Okta performance?

    Cheers

    Ben

I'm having the same issue. Did you ever get this working properly? Office 365 Pro Plus in a RDS 2016 (Session Host) setup. Getting two pop-ups for "activating office" on initial profile creation.

    Hi Aaron,

I did implement the Silent activation feature.

I could see some users authenticating with it but there were still some users getting the pop-up.  This may be due to the Kerberos ticket expiration length.

Ultimately the feature was removed as Skype failed to login when it was active and we couldn't resolve this.

    Cheers

    Ben

We also have this configured this feature and see some users authenticating via Kerberos in the System Log, but others (most of our end users) still get a pop-up. Has anyone had further success in getting the Okta Office365 Silent Activation working as advertised?

In our case, we opened up the feature, had not pushed the reg keys out to the clients. We entered the service account and password to stage it, but did not click 'Enabled'. The next day we had users calling to say they are getting prompted for a password. We had AD connect setup and IWA setup already. I'm wondering what caused the Skype for Business users to get a prompt for the passwords. It is only Skype that was affected.
