jhillenburg2 (Customer) asked a question.

Create push group to Office 365 that is mail-enabled?
Hi. We have a series of Okta-mastered users that we would like to group by facility into distribution and security groups. We have successfully created rules in Okta for that purpose. However, the problem is that they are created in Office 365/Azure AD as security groups, and we need them to be email-enabled distribution groups. How can we accomplish this?

Nick, is this possible now? It's been a long time since your response to Joseph.

Our solution to this was to implement Azure Active Directory Connect (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=47594) in parallel with Okta. The impetus for this was primarily to pass extended attributes which were required for some Office 365 services (Skype for Business/Teams, Exchange 365, etc.) but it also rectified this issue at the same time.

Joseph - did you have any issues with conflicting objects?

As I can see on our tenant Okta still create security groups with this Push feature and it is not possible to force Okta create mail-enabled security groups.

Joseph any chance you can answer if the parallel sync did not create any conflicts? Currently Okta shows us 'not compatible with AAD Sync' for the provisioning type.

  • wzbql (wzbql)

we are also in the same situation where security groups is being pushed to office 365 , Okta in the forum keeps telling us that Okta can eradicate AD and that what we want , if we can manage the existing dlist from okta (not security groups) we will be in good shape at this point we are still manually managing the dlist of office 365

A year passed since my last reply in this thread. Our tenant is on Universal Sync now but it is still not possible to control DL/mail-enabled security groups just in Okta. With more than 2 years in a row I'm asking about wildcard search implementation I can suggest Okta can add this feature after a decade or so.
