New Salesforce Profiles Do Not Appear In Okta

Overview

If a new profile exists in Salesforce, the profile might not appear in the Okta User Assignments page because the application data is outdated. Resolve this issue by re-authenticating the API credentials or refreshing the application data in Okta. The observable symptom is the absence of the newly created Salesforce profile in the Profile URL dropdown on the Edit User Assignment page in Okta.

Cause

The application data from Salesforce is no longer up to date in Okta after changes occur on the Salesforce side. Review the Refresh Application Data Functionality and Usage article for additional information regarding Application Data.

Solution

How are new Salesforce profiles synced to Okta?

Use one of the following methods to update the application data in Okta and sync the new Salesforce profiles.

 

Method 1: Re-authenticate API credentials

Re-authenticate the API credentials used for Salesforce provisioning to trigger the download and update of application data in Okta.

  1. Navigate to the Okta Admin Console and go to Applications > Applications > Salesforce > Provisioning > Integration.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Verify that the OAuth Consumer Key and OAuth Consumer Secret are correct. Review Configure OAuth and REST integration for more details.
  4. Click Re-authenticate with Salesforce.com.

  5. Enter the administrator username and password used to create the Connected OAuth App in the new window.
  6. Click Allow to permit access to the Connected App.
  7. Confirm the successful authentication message on the Provisioning page in Okta and click Save.
  8. Navigate to the Assignments tab in the Salesforce application, click the pencil icon to open the Edit User Assignment page, and check the Profile URL dropdown to confirm the new profile is available.

 

Method 2: Refresh Application Data

Trigger an import of application data for all applications configured with provisioning by using the Refresh Application Data option.

 

NOTE: This triggers an import of application data for all applications configured with provisioning.

 

  1. Navigate to the Okta Admin Console and go to Applications > Applications.
  2. Click More and select Refresh Application Data.

Apps

  1. Navigate to the Assignments tab in the Salesforce application, click the pencil icon to open the Edit User Assignment page, and check the Profile URL dropdown to confirm the new profile is available.
