How to Sanitize a HTTP Trace File Automatically
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine
Overview

This process explains how admins can automatically sanitize their HTTP Traces (HAR and SAML Tracer files).

NOTE: While Okta will attempt to identify sensitive data, the sole responsibility for identifying and redacting sensitive information within HAR files rests with the customer, not Okta.

Applies To
  • HAR files
  • SAML Tracer Files
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Okta Classic Engine
Solution
  1. Navigate to the Support Portal.
  2. Select Get Support and Open a Case.
  3. To trigger the file sanitization, simply attach/upload the HAR file or SAML Tracer file to the existing case or new case.
    1. The file is sanitized at the client side before it is uploaded to the portal.
    2. The original trace is not uploaded prior to sanitization.
    3. Filename after sanitization and upload: redacted_<file_name>.har.
    4. Do not attempt to upload zipped or compressed HAR files, as they will not trigger sanitization.

NOTE: If the upload is unsuccessful, refer to Sanitizing HTTP Traces for instructions on manually redacting the HTTP trace before reattempting

Potentially retake the HTTP trace and retry the upload.

NOTE: Do not email HTTP traces, as email does not automatically sanitize files. The email attachment will not be blocked.
