Group Push Relink

Lifecycle Management
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine

Overview

This article outlines the following scenario involving group push behavior and the limitations of group linking when using rules:

  1. Groups are successfully pushed by name.

  2. The groups are then unlinked, remaining on the application side but not deleted.

  3. A rule is created that should match the groups (for example, "starts with").

  4. An attempt is made to relink the groups using the rule; however, the groups do not appear under the Push tab, despite fully matching the rule criteria.

Applies To

  • Group Push
  • Lifecycle Management
  • Group Push by Rule

Cause

Relinking is not supported when using group push-by-rule.

According to the Configure Group Linking documentation, linking is only supported when performing a group push by name. Once a group is unlinked, the system cannot relink it through a rule-based push.

Solution

At this time, the only available solution is to:

  1. Delete the group on the application side the moment it is unlinked.

  2. Re-push the group using the rule so that it is correctly recreated and linked.
