Overview

GitHub Enterprise Cloud - Organization provisioning flow fails with the following error visible in the Okta dashboard:

Cause

Common reasons for this error:

  • The GitHub administrator credentials used for creating the API connection are invalid.

  • The authentication token used for the integration is no longer valid.

Solution
  1. Go to the Okta Admin Console and navigate to Applications > Applications > GitHub Enterprise Cloud—Organization > Provisioning > Integration > click the Edit button.

  2. Click Re-authenticate with GitHub Enterprise Cloud - Organization to generate a token.

  3. The authorization page on GitHub will open, asking to grant Okta access to administer the organization.

  4. Grant access to the organization account and click on Authorize application.

  5. A message confirming successful authentication will be received. Click Save.

  6. Afterwards, attempt the user provisioning again. Navigate to Dashboard > Tasks. Any failed assignments should appear under Tasks

  7. After identifying the failed task for the user that should be retried, click on Retry Selected.

  8. If the issue still persists, please contact GitHub support for more details and steps on how to resolve this error.
