Overview

There is an <application_name> application integration configured, and provisioning API is enabled in the Okta org. When a user is reassigned to an external application in Okta, <application_name> provisioning fails with the error:

Automatic provisioning of user <user> to app <application_name> failed: User account is inactive

Cause

The Deactivate Users feature is not enabled in the provisioning settings under Applications > <application_name> > Provisioning > To App. This feature needs to be enabled so that Okta can activate the user on the application side.

NOTE: If this feature should not be enabled, activate the user from the application side or delete it before assigning the user to the application integration in Okta.

Solution

If the Deactivate Users feature should not be enabled:

  • Activate the user from the application side or delete it before assigning the user to the application integration in Okta.

If the Deactivate Users feature should be enabled:

  1. Go to Okta Admin Console and navigate to Applications > <application_name> > Provisioning > To App.
  2. Click Edit. Select the provisioning feature Deactivate Users to enable it. Click the Save button.

  1. Attempt the failed tasks again. Navigate to Dashboard > Tasks. Any failed assignments should appear under Tasks.

  1. After identifying the failed task for the user that should be retried, click Retry Selected.
  2. If the issue persists, please contact application support for more details and steps to resolve this error.
