PedroC.80530 (Customer) asked a question.

2 HR platforms to handle the provisioning and deprovisioning of Okta accounts.

Hi,

We are using Namely (HR Plataform) as source of truth to do the JML process and create and deactivated the users in Okta.

We will purchase in the next weeks a new HR Platform (Rippling) and we need to segment by attribute to use both platforms to JML Process.

Basically we wan to Namely → manages Europe users and Rippling manages US users.

So all new users in Europe will only be created in Namely and all new users in US will only be created in Rippling.

Does Okta let you set the order of Profile Source priorities?

Can we have both connectors working with Okta?

If Okta requires one to be the Master Source, will the users created by the second source in Okta be checked against the first (main) source, and will Okta attempt to deactivate them if they are not found in the first (main) source?

Each User can only have one Main Profile, we can have the connector on the attibute location to set what is the source profile to get the info for the user? Or it will always try to connect first with master source and if doesn't exist there than conects with the second source?

Thanks

  • Hi @PedroC.80530 (Customer) , Thank you for reaching out to the Okta Community!

Okta supports multiple profile sources and you can configure their priority via Okta Dashboard > Directories > Profile Sources

You can also configure sourcing at attribute level. Please check the following articles for details:

You can have multiple profile masters in okta. Below are the three main scenarios.

    1. Users exclusive to masters will be trusted and sourced by the respective master.

    2. Users common to both masters/HRSS will be mastered by the top priority system

    3. There is an attribute level mastering feature as well to override the org wide priorities

Basically any combination is possible as long as the requirements don't contradict.

Based on what I have experienced with Rippling connector, it's not really set up as a source in Okta since all the updates are done in Rippling (no application in Okta). The users look like they are sourced by Okta, but I think it will update the attributes as you need them to. Just make sure they are not assigned to any other sources.

Basically, just check that the users are only assigned to one or the other and you should be fine
