Hi everyone,
We have HR system as a source of truth for all our employees. Once the work email is added the HR system, Okta imports the user, and uses the work email as okta login username and provisions apps and M365 licenses as per their role. My question here is if someone wants to change their work email (Example: abcd@.com to abc@.com), we have to do this through HR system as it is the source of truth, but will it affect anything? will it create a new user or just changes the username and retains all its previous things

Hi @NamgayK.79663 (Customer) , thank you for reaching out to Okta Community.
In this case, you may need to do a manual import for the user.
First, you need to disconnect the user’s Okta profile from the HR app by going to the user profile in Okta Admin > More actions > Disconnect from *source of truth*.
Second, the information of the user needs to be updated in the HR app that you are using as a source of truth.
Lastly, you need to go to the HR app in Okta Admin (under Applications > Applications). Go to the Import tab and look up the user by the new username. On the right-side of the import window, click the arrow to unfold the dropdown and choose to update an Okta user I specify. In the search bar enter the old username of the user. Check that the information is correct, then import.
This process will update the data in Okta without creating a new user profile.
There could be two potential setbacks. The user may need to create a new password for their account. The user's provisioning username may not be automatically updated for every application that the user has assigned. In that case, an admin can go and manually update those using the edit button.
You may want to work with someone from our Support team for more detail-oriented assistance. They will have access to more tools and information, so they will be able to target each matter better. If you have a paid account, you can open a case here.
Regards.
