ROBERTR.44250 (Customer) asked a question.

Is it possible to allow self-service update of Okta Username (login field)

Wanting to allow users to change the Okta Username (login field). Have the Okta Username profile attribute set to Read-Write. From a user's setting page, the Okta username field is displayed but is not editable. Other fields, such as First Name, also set to Read-Write are editable.

In this particular implementation, Okta is not connected to an external directory service.

If it possible to configure Okta to allow self-service Okta Username updates? And if so, please elaborate.

  • Hi,

Please make sure that the attribute is mastered by Okta, otherwise it can only be edited from the Admin UI. This can be checked under Directory-> Profile Editor-> Okta user - Profile-> Username - info button-> Source priority. For users to be able to edit that field, this should be set to "Inherit from Okta".

If you encounter any issue, I highly recommend raising a support ticket or calling our support line at (800) 219-0964.

    Thank You,
