t3dsa (t3dsa) asked a question.

Why can a user still access their Google Worskpace through the browser?

We have Okta setup for google workspace and it was forcing users to go through Okta to access it. To my knowledge nothing has changed but users can no access their workspace from any web browser through the web. Could anyone shed any light as to why that might be happening?

Many thanks

  • Hi @t3dsa (t3dsa) , Thank you for reaching out to the Okta Community!

I'm not sure what the context for this use case is, but login through web browser is expected.

If you have a SAML integration and the users can sign in directly on the site with their username/password instead of being redirected to Okta for authentication, then it might mean that there is something wrong with the configuration.

You can check the following documentation for any discrepancies:

    https://saml-doc.okta.com/SAML_Docs/How-to-Enable-SAML-2.0-in-Google-Apps.html

Please note that you will need to be signed into your org as the admin to view the variables that are not listed there.

If you already have all that, my best guess is to look for the "Ensure that you assigned your previously created multiple-IdP SAML profile to an Org Unit..." in case the specific users were not assigned properly.

If my answer helped, remember to mark it as best to increase its visibility for other members of the Okta Community who might have the same questions as you.

    Hope my answer helps!

      Hi Mihai

Thanks for the response, I possibly wasn’t being clear with my initial post. The user can go to
gmail.com or slack.com and log in normally where I would expect them to be redirected to Okta to log in but that isn’t happening.

      Thanks

      Adam
