Hi All,
I am wondering if there is any way to centralise the dynamic creation of a users 'login'?
Our use case is as follows:
- We are creating a certain set of users via the 'POST: ../api/v1/users' API.
- We would like to centralise the dynamic creation of the 'login' value in Okta, rather than the application calling the API.
- Most likely the output would be some numerical value potentially just incrementing the previous one.
Does Okta have any support for this type of requirement? I have investigated the hooks which don't seem to support this.
I don't have access to Okta Workflows, so I'm also wondering if this requirement could be fulfilled by that?
Thanks in advance.

Hi @JR.56041 (-) , Thank you for reaching out to the Okta Community!
I ran this by my colleagues and confirmed that there currently is no out-of-the-box capability for this type of implementation but they did mention that there is a workflows template https://help.okta.com/wf/en-us/Content/Topics/Workflows/templates/templates-list.htm called "Generate unique username with user import inline hooks" that might help.
You mentioned that you don't have access to Workflows. My advice would be to reach out to your Okta Account Executive and discuss options and maybe a free trial / preview account to test things out.
If my answer helped, remember to mark it as best to increase its visibility for other members of the Okta Community who might have the same questions as you.
Hope my answer helps!
