Error when provisioning Existing Users to Salesforce app

We are seeing an error when provisioning existing users to a Salesforce app. 

 

 "An error occurred while assigning this app.

Automatic provisioning of user Mxxx Sxxxxxx to app Salesforce.com failed: Required fields are missing: [ProfileId]

 

 Can anyone please advise what this means and how can we resolve it?

    What you are seeing is an automated response from the Salesforce API side indicating that some value is missing. 

    You mentioned "existing users" being affected - assuming that other users were not, you should compare the assignments to see where the difference is. 

    You may need to manually edit the assignment to correct the issue. 

    Example:

    Company Name
