Updating email in okta changes okta username

We have use cases where the email and okta username will not match. In our preview environment when we update the email in okta it changes the okta username to match the email. In production this isn't happening. Where do I turn that off?

    This looks like a feature that needs to be disabled on our end.

    When a user manually changes their primary email address via self service and then confirms the change, the username is also changed to match the new primary email address value.

    Please open a support ticket for this one and we will gladly assist you.
