Re-enabled iOS notifications for Okta Verify App

If you reset the settings (just settings, not all content and settings) on an iPhone, it automatically resets the notifications settings for all applications (among other things). This requires them to get re-approved on the device to send notifications. Most apps seem to check this and prompt again for permission the first time they are opened. Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case for Okta Verify. Is there a way to get the Verify app to re-request push notification permission? It doesn't show up in the Settings->Notifications section because only apps that have requested that right have an entry there.

    Hi Sam,

Dan here on behalf of Okta s Customer Support Team, thanks for reaching out to us.

The Okta Verify app was designed that way, however , you can always go into your IOS Settings and allow notifications or not, manually.

I also believe that this may be a good idea to submit to the Okta Community.

If there are many users that will find that an interesting idea, it may get many votes and it has a chance to be implemented in the future.

    Thank You,

Thanks for responding. The problem is that you actually *can't* go into iOS settings and choose to allow notifications. Not every app installed on the phone is listed in the Notifications settings - I'm pretty sure they don't get listed there until a notifications entitlement is requested. So there actually *isn't* anywhere currently that I can go to manually change the notification settings for Okta Verify. Hence my post. Theoretically I guess I can probably delete the app and reinstall it, but I'm guessing that may also result in needing to re-setup the MFA config for all my Okta account registered in there.

Is this issue solved? How? I have the same problem. No way to re-enable notifications (unless I delete and start from scratch).

Edit: Fix is to uninstall the Okta app and reinstall.

This is not an "interesting idea" for votes. This is a bug in Okta's iOS implementation. Why allow notifications upon initial install, but disallow them by implementation later on with no recourse?

Not getting notifications either, at least for remote network login "did you try to log in from somewhere" prompts.

Did a full app uninstall and re-register. Same thing. No banners, no popups, not even any badges. Watch app works, but not the IOs one.

Is your app actually trying to make notifications? Is there a way to test this other than run whatever corporate app forces the verification sequence?

Bump, same issue on iOS where the app isn't listed under "Notifications". Still trying to figure it out. Will post back if I do

  • kmbir (kmbir)

This worked for one of my users. Cheers!

Problem: Okta Verify push isn't working on iOS device. The underlying issue is that notifications aren't approved for the app.

Symptoms observed: Go to iOS Settings, Notifications, you won't see Okta Verify app in the list of apps. Also, scroll to the bottom to select Okta Verify app settings and "Notifications" isn't an option to allow for the app.

    Resolution:

For iOS devices, do the following steps to resolve notifications not working:

    1. Delete the App
    2. Power off the device then turn back on
    3. Go to Settings/General/Date and Time turn Set Automatically OFF then manually set date forward at least 1 day
    4. Power off the device then turn back on
    5. Reinstall the App / open it and when you get pop up about Allow Notifications select Yes
    6. Now just go back to Settings/General/Date and Time and turn Set Automatically back on

Is this issue fixed? I also have the same problem.

rebooting or enter to iOS notification setting doens't seem to work.

I have found a fix to re-enable notification for this on my iPhone when Okta isn't an app showing in the 'Notifications' list in settings.

    1. Open the Okta app
    2. in the top right click the ellipsis '...'
    3. Select 'Settings'
    4. Select 'Sign-in Notification Tips'
    5. At the bottom if your notifications are not enabled then you will see an option to enable them. If they are already enabled then you will just see 'Learn More'.

I had the option to enable, I clicked and this has resolved my issue.

    Hope this helps!
