n6eyc (n6eyc) asked a question.

Unable to successfully connect to Okta Universal Directory (UD) using Softerra LDAP Browser 4.5

Anyone able to use Softerra LDAP Browser 4.5 to connect to UD?

I have tried any number of settings and doesn't work for me.

I have validated that I can use an alternate LDAP Browser but it's not my preferred browser.

Anyone have some ideas on how to resolve?

Unable to successfully connect to UD using Softerra LDAP Browser 4.5

FAIL

I have downloaded and configured Softerra LDAP Browser 4.5 and am NOT able to connect to our test Okta Universal Directory (UD) ourtest.ldap.oktapreview.com on port 636.

SUCCESS

I have installed and successfully use Apache Directory Studio Version: 2.0.0.v20170904-M13 to connect to our test Okta Universal Directory (UD) ourtest.ldap.oktapreview.com on port 636.

  • Hi Jerry,

Marius here from the Tier 2 team. I managed to successfully integrate this 10 minutes ago.My settings look like this:

    Profile tab :

    -Host : fulga.ldap.okta.com : 636

    -Base DN : dc=fulga,dc=okta,dc=com

    -Use SSL is checked

    Credentials tab :

    -set to "Other credentials"

    -Mechanism = simple

    -Principal : uid=marius.fulga@domain.com,dc=fulga,dc=okta,dc=com

-Password - I used my account's Okta password

Hit apply and Ok and this should now connect. I have not played with any other settings, only with these 2.

If you're still having issues with these settings, the best approach would be to open a support ticket, and we'll gladly look into this for you! Have a great rest of the day!

    Kind regards,

    Marius Fulga

Thank you for the information. Does your host, fulga.kdap.okta.com, require MFA to access or only simple crenetials?

  • I do not have MFA for the account, as the window for inputting the MFA factor is pretty low (10 seconds) and considering network latencies + SMS carrier's latency, we might not get a successful login. The other recommendation is to use an admin that is Read-only at least.

I am not seeing anything in the logs for my Credentials in our Okta Preview area.
Is there a better way to search my Okta Preview logs to determine what may be going wrong?

I am getting failure after using the following settings in Softerra LDAP Browser 4.5

    -Host :
    brookdaledev.ldap.oktapreview.com : 636

    -Base DN : dc=brookdaledev,dc=oktapreview,dc=com

    -Use SSL is checked

    Credentials tab :

    -set to "Other credentials"

    -Mechanism = simple

    -Principal : dc=brookdaledev,dc=oktapreview,dc=com

-Password - I used my account's Okta password

These are the settings in my Okta Preview UD (
    brookdaledev.oktapreview.com) for my account
