Where can I find flow diagrams for Okta MFA?

Okta documentation includes diagrams showing the flow of information between the service provider (SP), the user, and the identity provider (IdP). E.g. the diagrams at https://support.okta.com/help/s/article/Beginner-s-Guide-to-SAML and https://developer.okta.com/standards/SAML/ .

 

Okta documentation also includes a helpful table of the pros and cons of various MFA/2FA technologies: https://help.okta.com/en/prod/Content/Topics/Security/MFA.htm

 

Is there any Okta documentation that includes flow diagrams for any of those MFA/2FA technologies when used with Okta as the IdP and a third-party website as the SP?

    It would technically be considered either a part of Step 4, or 4.5. As a part of authenticating the User, Okta would check the Policy to see if an MFA challenge is required, and if so would prompt the User for MFA before completing the SAML login flow.

    Hey Sam,

    Unfortunately I've not been able to find any public facing documentation that shows a DFD / flow diagram for an SP initiated SAML attempt with MFA. I have reached out to the Docs Team to see what they can get me, but at the moment I don’t have anything to share.
