Okta Identity Engine
API Access Management
Overview

An error occurs during self-service registration when the Profile Enrollment Policy is incorrectly configured. Resolve this by verifying the Self-Service Registration settings and group assignments within the policy.

When a user attempts self-service registration, the Okta Sign-In Widget displays the following error:

Sign up is not enabled for this organization

Sign up is not enabled for this organization error message

Applies To
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Sign-In Widget
  • Profile Enrollment
  • Self-Service Registration (SSR)
Cause

This error appears when a client invokes Self-Service Registration (SSR) using https://<url>/signin/register, but the associated Profile Enrollment Policy of the client is incorrectly configured. The following misconfigurations cause this error:

  • The profile enrollment policy assigned to the client does not have SSR enabled.
  • A profile enrollment policy has SSR enabled, but the application is not included in that policy.
  • The profile enrollment policy has SSR enabled, the application is present in the policy, and the Add the user to group option specifies a group, but that group lacks assignment to the application.
  • The Default application for the Sign-in Widget points to an application where any of the previous conditions are true, or the profile enrollment policy lacks a specified group.
Solution

How is the "Sign up is not enabled for this organization" error resolved?

To resolve this error, verify the Self-Service Registration settings and group assignments within the Profile Enrollment Policy by ensuring the following configurations are correct:

  • Ensure a Profile Enrollment Policy has SSR enabled and includes the application.
  • If the Add the user to group option specifies a group, ensure this group is also assigned to the application.
  • If the application acts as the Default application for Sign-in Widget, add a group to the Add the user to group option in the profile enrollment policy and assign it to the application:
