Self-Service Registration Incompatible with Okta Identity Engine Upgrade
Administration
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine
Overview

The following reconfiguration has been identified as part of the preparation needed to perform the upgrade to Okta Identity Engine (OIE). Note that additional Okta features may require reconfiguration or be disabled in order to complete the upgrade.  In Classic Okta Identity Cloud, an Early Access feature “Self-service registration” (SSR) lets users use a custom app or the Okta Homepage to self-register. After enabling SSR, a “Sign up” link appears in the Okta Sign-In widget. Users who select this link are directed to a new Create Account registration form based on a customized registration policy.

Applies To
  • OIE_UPGRADE_FEATURE_INCOMPATIBLE_SELF_SERVICE_REGISTRATION
  • Okta Identity Engine Upgrades
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Self-Service Registration
Cause

During the upgrade to Okta Identity Engine (OIE), the Okta Classic Self-Service Registration (SSR) policy is replaced by the Generally Available Profile Enrollment Policy. The new policy provides more robust functionality, including the ability to collect profile data incrementally as users access different applications.

Solution

No immediate action is required to resolve this incompatibility before the upgrade.

  • After the upgrade to Okta Identity Engine (OIE) is complete, the new Profile Enrollment feature will be active.

  • The Progressive Profiling feature, which is part of Profile Enrollment, will not be active by default but can be enabled post-upgrade.

NOTE: There is an additional feature enabled for Self Service Registration to function in classic, called “Universal Directory, Map Email to Login” [UD_MAP_FIELD_TO_LOGIN]. This feature ensures the value of the user login the same as the email address ensuring unique users using the email attribute. This feature will not be disabled during the upgrade process. If this is no longer needed for your solution, this can be disabled post-upgrade through the normal feature enablement request process.
