Okta Error Occurs When Converting App Assignment to Individually-Owned

Overview

An error occurs when converting an existing user application assignment from group-owned to individually-owned in Okta. This issue occurs when required attributes on the application user profile are missing a value. Populating all required attributes before saving the assignment resolves the error. When an administrator selects the option to override the group assignment, Okta generates the following error message:

Cause

The error occurs because the required attributes on the application user profile are empty.

Solution

How is the application assignment error resolved?

Navigate to the application assignment, select the option to override the group, and enter the required attribute values to successfully convert the assignment.

  1. In the Okta Admin Console, navigate to the Assignments tab of the application.
  2. Search for the user and select the Edit User Assignment (pencil) icon.
  3. Select the Administrator (overrides group) option to convert the assignment from group-owned to individually-owned.
  4. Enter a value for all required attributes on the application user profile.
  5. Select Save.
