Options
On the People page for an individual, there are buttons to access the functionality listed below. If there are one or two actions available, individual buttons appear. If there are more actions available, a More Actions button will be displayed that opens a drop-down menu with additional actions in it.
Add people
Adding people to the organization allows them to have their own My Applications page. Perform the following steps to add end users to the org.
- Log in to the Admin Console.
- Click on Directory to expand that section.
- Select People.
-
On the People page, click Add Person. The Add Person window should display.
-
Enter the First name and Last name.
-
Enter the Username.
-
The user name must be in email address format and is typically the user's primary email address. Users will sign in using this username.
For a list of the characters supported in Okta email addresses, see Supported Okta email address characters.
-
-
Enter a Primary email.
- This can be any valid email address that the user has access to. This is typically the same address used for the user's login name.
-
Optionally, enter a Secondary email.
- This email can be used as a backup in case the user cannot access their primary email. This is not required.
-
Optional — Assign the user to groups by typing the group name in the Groups field. A list of matching groups should appear for selection. Repeat to add additional groups.
-
Select whether the Password is "Set by user" or "Set by admin".
-
Set by user – The user is prompted to enter a password the first time they sign in to Okta.
- If the Send user activation email now checkbox is marked, the user will immediately receive a "Welcome to Okta!" activation email. Otherwise, the user will be in Pending Activation Status and will not be notified via email of their new Okta account.
-
Set by admin – Enter a password for the end user.
-
To prompt the user to change their password on their first sign-in, mark the User must change password on first login checkbox. The user must be manually provided with their set password.
-

-
Click Save, or add another user by clicking Save and Add Another.
