Okta CSV Imports Failing with Error "Failed to Upload Row"

Overview

When doing CSV imports (either from a CSV directory or CSV file), admins may encounter the following error message at the end of the import process. A report indicating which users are affected can then be downloaded.

 

Failed to Upload Row

Applies To
  • Updating users via CSV
  • CSV Import
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
Cause

The reason why this error may occur is related to either 2 factors:

  • The attributes that require updating are sourced from a different profile source (for example, Active Directory, Workday, BambooHR).
  • Attribute values differ between what is stored in Okta and how they appear in the CSV file.
Solution

To address these issues, please ensure that:

  • In the Profile Editor, open the Okta User (default) profile and verify that the attributes that need updating are showing as having their values inherited from Okta, not from another profile source.
  • The attribute variables match the exact format in Okta (capital letters, spaces, correct name letter by letter).
