Can Users Be Unassigned from the Okta Dashboard Application

Overview
The goal of this knowledge article is to present how Okta Admins can hide the Okta Dashboard from some users.

Solution
The Okta Dashboard Application is assigned by default to all users, and it cannot be unassigned for a specific user.
However, there are ways to hide or restrict access to the Okta Dashboard.

Disable the Okta End-User Dashboard for Specific Groups/Users
- For Okta Identity Engine (OIE):
- Navigate to the Admin console.
- Navigate to Security > Authentication Policies.
- Select the Okta Dashboard app.
- For Okta Identity Engine (OIE):

- On the Rules tab, click Add rule.

- Enter a Rule Name (for example, "Disable Access to Dashboard for Groups").
- Set the following rule conditions:
- In the IF section, specify which users/groups qualify for the new rule.
- In the THEN section, set the Access is option to Denied.

- For Okta Classic Engine
- Navigate to the Admin console.
- Navigate to Applications > Applications.
- Select the Okta Dashboard app.
- For Okta Classic Engine

- In the Sign On Policy area, click Add Rule.

- Enter a Rule Name (for example, "Disable Access to Dashboard for Groups").
- In the PEOPLE section, specify which users/groups qualify for the new rule.
- In the ACCESS section, set the Access option to Denied.

Change the Default Sign-in App
- Navigate to the Admin console.
- Navigate to Customizations > Brands.
- Click on the Brand.
- Navigate to Pages > Sign-in page and click on Configure.

- Click the Settings tab.
- In the Default Application for Sign-In Widget section, click Edit.

- Enter an AppLink.
- Click Save.
