Combining Microsoft Office 365 License Assignment Values from Multiple Okta Groups
Last Updated:
Overview
Administrators combine Microsoft Office 365 (O365) license values across all group assignments by modifying the group priority settings in the Okta Profile Editor. The O365 application sets the default behavior for the licenses and roles attributes to group priority, which assigns licenses based only on the first group a user belongs to. When assigning users to the O365 application, Okta assigns licenses only from the highest-priority group instead of combining licenses from all groups the user is a member of.
Applies To
- Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
- Okta Classic Engine
- Microsoft Office 365 (O365)
- Lifecycle Management
Cause
The Microsoft Office 365 application sets the default behavior for the licenses and roles attributes to group priority. Okta pushes users to Microsoft Office 365 with the licenses and roles of the first group they are a member of based on the priority of the group assignment.
Solution
How are Microsoft Office 365 license values combined across multiple groups?
Adjust the group priority settings for the licenses attribute in the Okta Profile Editor to combine values across all group assignments.
- Navigate to Directory and select Profile Editor.
- Select Profile for the Microsoft Office 365 application.
- Select the information (i) icon for the Licenses attribute.
- Change the Group Priority setting to Combine values across groups.
The attribute properties window displays the Group Priority dropdown menu with the Combine values across groups option selected.
NOTE: Administrators can also apply this functionality to the roles attribute.
