Users are Unassigned from the Office 365 App in Okta after a Microsoft Office 365 Import

Okta Integration Network

Overview

After Microsoft Office 365 import, the Okta users assigned to the Office 365 integration are unassigned, or an import roadblock event appears. Import Safeguard settings will stop an import before changes are made if a certain number of App unassignments or user deactivations will occur as a result of the import. The threshold is represented in the percentage of total users.

Applies To

  • Microsoft Office 365
  • Import
  • Roadblock

Cause

The most common causes for this are:

  • The user accounts are no longer active in Microsoft.
  • The user account licenses were removed on the Microsoft side. Microsoft Office 365 unlicensed users will not be imported into Okta. If a user is unlicensed in Microsoft Office 365, they will not be imported into Okta. Please be aware that users who do not exist in Okta and do not have a license in their Office account cannot be imported into Okta. However, when importing Microsoft Office 365, unlicensed users who do not have an account in Okta can be exported as a CSV and then imported into Okta. Please note that some adjustments may be required.

Solution

Group membership in Okta will also be affected if it is managed via Microsoft Office 365 imports.
