Question About AD Password Migration and Login Failures in Okta

Hello Okta Support,

We are planning to migrate passwords from Active Directory (AD) to Okta using an AD Password Migration campaign.

Could you please confirm whether there are any cases where a user may be unable to sign in to Okta with their existing AD password after the password has been migrated?

In particular, we would like to understand the following:

  1. Are there any characters, Unicode characters, control characters, or password formats that are supported by Active Directory but not supported by Okta password migration or Okta authentication?
  2. If an existing AD password does not meet the Okta password policy, can the user still sign in to Okta immediately after migration?
  3. Are there any known limitations or conditions that could cause a migrated password to fail authentication in Okta?
  4. Is there an official list of unsupported password characters or character encodings for AD password migration?

We would appreciate any relevant documentation or recommendations for validating this before starting the migration campaign.

Thank you.
