ITM.02535 (Customer) asked a question.

Okta rate limit reached

Summary:

We received an automated alert from Okta indicating that our organization has hit the rate limit quota for the /api/v1/apps* endpoint.

Context:

Right before receiving this notification, I performed an administrative change: assigning a newly created app to an Okta Directory Group. I suspect the resulting bulk membership mapping or an associated provisioning workflow triggered this burst

Request:

Could you help review our backend telemetry to pinpoint exactly which application ID or API token monopolized the endpoint quota?

  • Paul S. (Okta, Inc.)

Hello @ITM.02535 (Customer) Thank you for posting on our Community page!

From the Community side we do not have access to your Okta Org details to see which application has triggered the rate limit.

The fastest way to confirm what caused the spike is directly within the Okta Admin Console.

    • Navigate to Reports > System Log.
    • Search for the rate limit warnings and violations to identify the exact timestamp of the burst:
      • eventType eq "system.api.limit.warning"
      • eventType eq "system.api.limit.violation"
    • Expand the log event details. Under the Target or DebugContext sections, Okta usually specifies the exact URI that was rate-limited (e.g., /api/v1/apps/<AppID>/users).

Thank you for reaching out to our Community and have a great day!
