NawarK.64413 (Customer) asked a question.
I’m a user whose company relies heavily on Okta for identity and access. I will soon be traveling to Syria for a short period.
Given the recently lifted U.S. sanctions under OFAC General License 25 (May 23, 2025), I’d like to ask:
Is Okta now officially permitted for use from Syria?
If not yet enabled, is there a timeline or roadmap for restoring access?
In the meantime, is it permitted to access Okta from Syria via a VPN showing a German IP, in accordance with your Acceptable Use Policy?

Hi @NawarK.64413 (Customer) , Thank you for reaching out to the Okta Community!
This topic is covered in detail in this article, but in short, the restriction has not been changed as of yet.
While there are possible exemptions to this restriction, they do not apply at individual user level.
There is currently no ETA for an update.
In the meantime, we strongly recommend reaching out to your organization's IT team to discuss the use of VPN in this situation. If needed, they can submit a ticket with our Okta Support team to discuss a possible exemption of your organization.
If my answer helped, remember to mark it as best to increase its visibility for other members of the Okta Community who might have the same questions as you.
Hope my answer helps!

Hi@NawarK.64413 (Customer), I visited Syria 2 weeks ago, and I got all my accounts blocked. FYI on Sanctions @Mihai Negoita - Okta (Okta, Inc.) : If the system is blocking me because of old sanctions on Syria, please check the rules again. Syria is not under those major sanctions anymore.
