At this moment the default option for okta session without activity on portal is 2 hours. This is fine however there is a group of people that need to have that extended to longer.
From my understanding there are 2 options i am aware of
- edit existing policy so everyone within company would have their sessions extended
- create new group, place the specific group of people there and write a new policy on top of the default for them to have longer session
Are there any other options? We don't want to create too many groups as management and clean up might be a problem down the line as well as onboarding etc
Is there a way to make this more specific or any other way i am missing

You are correct on both points and at this time this is the only way to extend the Okta session lifetime, this is because the Policy is applied to Groups and not by user/other option.
The best scenario for you at this time is to create a new policy and apply it on the group with the specific users that need an extended the session.
