Okta MFA redirects to new browser tab from PowerPoint add-in

Hi,

We have Microsoft authentication flow with Azure AD in our PowerPoint add-in application, and we are using the redirect flow.

Users without Okta integration can log in in the add-in with no issues, without leaving the PowerPoint (no browser is opened).

However, when logging in with Okta integration, a new browser tab is opened outside PowerPoint, breaking the authentication flow.

Is there some setting we can configure to avoid this issue? Do you have any suggestions?

Regards

This sounds like an issue with the modern authentication part of the Powerpoint add-in.  The entire login flow should happen in the login overlay/pop-up for the app. I wouldn't expect it to open a browser window regardless if the account is federated with Okta or not.

Please review following article to see if it helps:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dev/add-ins/develop/sso-in-office-add-ins

The behavior would not be something that can be configured from the Okta side, though.

If my answer helped, remember to mark it as best to increase its visibility for other members of the Okta Community who might have the same questions as you.

    Hope my answer helps!
