EileenM.21573 (Customer) asked a question.
I am an academic researcher formerly affiliated with an institution that uses Okta as its two-factor authentication service for access to institutional subscriptions (think Elsevier, Cambridge Core, Brill, JStor, etc.). Since I am no longer affiliated with that institution, I am no longer authorized to access that institution's subscriptions. I am not trying to access that institution's subscriptions, however, if I try to log in to these repositories as an individual, I am automatically redirected to my former institution's Okta authentication page.
The browser: Mozilla Firefox 143.0.3. I am able to access other sites on other browsers, as well as in private Firefox windows, which suggests it is a problem with my Firefox account. These are temporary workarounds I can live with only in the very short term. I am under no circumstances willing to switch browsers. I use Firefox for a reason. FWIW, I am also contacting Mozilla support to see what they recommend.
The computer: Macbook Air 2020 M1. It is a personal computer. I do not have access to another device.
I have cleared my browser history, saved form data, saved site settings, cookies, and cache (x5). I have deleted all saved passwords containing the email address associated with my former institution. I have restarted the browser (x5). I have restarted my computer (x2). I have reached out to IT at the institution (they are flummoxed).
I'm nearing my wit's end with this. I'm working on multiple projects with multiple deadlines. The temporary workaround and constant barrier to access are driving me up the wall. I will be infinitely grateful for a permanent solution to this hellish problem.

Hi @EileenM.21573 (Customer) , Thank you for reaching out to the Okta Community!
While Okta provides the Product(IAM, SSO, Okta Verify etc.), individual application access, account management and access policies are handled by your organization or service provider.
If you email address/username is still associated with the Okta authentication flow for the particular resources you are attempting to access, you will need to have the IT Department/help desk investigate and make sure they remove your account from the apps.
At best from our end I can suggest that you check if you have the Okta Browser plugin installed as an Add-on in the Firefox browser ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-or-remove-add-ons ), although that would not redirect to Okta when you try to log in to certain sites, it's just a plugin to help securely inject your credentials in the login fields. At most it would just result in failed authentication if the account has been properly removed from the apps.
If my answer helped, remember to mark it as best to increase its visibility for other members of the Okta Community who might have the same questions as you.
Hope my answer helps!
