b9cyr (b9cyr) asked a question.

HELP! Authentications missing when migrating to new phone handset.

I only use Okta to verify approval sessions on certain licensor websites (Disney, Warner Bros, Ring etc.) The company I work for does not use Okta and I do not have any kind of administrator access or dashboard. I have just changed my personal mobile handset (where my OKTA app is) and I need to be able to transfer my authentications for the various companies to the OKTA App on my new handset - HOW do I do this?? 3 hours in and can't see any way to do it?

Hi @b9cyr (b9cyr) , Thank you for reaching out to the Okta Community!

While Okta provides the Product (Okta Verify app), individual account management is handled by the third party company or service provider.

If MFA is enrolled for your account to authenticate to those services (Disney, Warner Bros, Ring etc.), they should be able to provide recovery options or support via their sites or support channels.

If my answer helped, remember to mark it as best to increase its visibility for other members of the Okta Community who might have the same questions as you.

    Hope my answer helps!

If you still have access to the old device you would be able to login to each Okta tenant/instance that you have Okta Verified enabled for (Disney, Warner Bros, Ring etc.) and go to your user profile settings. You do this by clicking your username in the upper right hand corner typically if these organization allow users to get to an Okta user dashboard. This dashboard is not an admin dashboard rather one any user can access.

If you do not have your old device and you do not have any other MFA (SMS, Google Auth, etc) set up then you are stuck and will need to reach out to each organization and have them reset your MFA. If you have another MFA set up like SMS you can self recover using the user dashboard steps I mentioned above but using SMS rather than Okta Verify.

Before switching devices it is a best practice to set up MFA factors on the new device using the verification from the old device. Google Authenticator gives you a nice copy feature where as Okta Verify you have to set up manually. However you end up recovering your MFA it is good idea to set up more than one factor so you have a better chance of being able to self recover. SMS will still work when you get a new device but not when you get a new phone number.
