Workday and Okta - How do you handle transfers?

We have an integration with Workday and everything works well for onboarding and offboarding. We are trying to understand how other companies deal with employee transfers. We have not found a good way to know when someone is transferred to another departments.

Definitely a great use case, happens often to be sure. The answer to your question will most likely depend on what you want to do with that information.

As is often the case, Workday is the source of truth (i.e. where users are hired and fired) and then that data comes down to reflect in Okta (and thus other downstream apps).

With that being said, if the department changes, that is something that should typically be updated in Workday by HR and thus update in Okta. If you have automated group rules or Workflows that are based on certain department values, keep in mind that will reflect for the user as well.

Hopefully that helps, if we can get a better idea of your specific use case then I would be happy to assist further. Thanks!
