su1mi (su1mi) asked a question.

Removing the automatic Okta Sign in window from Microsoft word / Office 356

Hello,

I have a private Office 356 subscription.

As a freelancer I worked at an agency in the WPP network, they are using Okta to provide access to their employees. I logged out of my personal 356 account on my Mac and logged in with the work account instead.

My contract has ended and now I want to use my personal Office 356 account again to use Word, PowerPoint, etc.

However, whenever I start the software, immediately the Okta Login Windows pops up, that I cannot remove, close or just say that I want to log in with another account instead. I have reinstalled all programs already, deleted the files in "Library / Application Support / Microsoft" but nothing seems to help. I cannot even activate my account or go the the preferences, because everything is greyed out.

Please advice on how to remove this window, because currently it hinders me from using my Office account that I am paying for.

macOS Monetery 12.5.1 (21G83)

Apple M1 Max

Word installed via App Store

    Hi, @su1mi (su1mi)

Thank you for posting on our Community page!

I researched your inquiry and the solution should be clearing all cache files and your credentials in KeyChain.

Here is a useful article which guides you step by step, even if for a different app (it is applicable to any MS app):

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for reaching out to our Community and have a great day!

    Thanks for the answer.

Unfortunately your linked article does not solve the problem.

The article is about MS Teams, which I interestingly do not have any issues with because it's easy to change accounts there. However in Excel, Word or Powerpoint it's not possible to change anything, because all menu items are greyed out, as shown in the screenshot.

I did all the steps from the linked article anyway but it didn't solve the problem.

Also, I deleted any other Microsoft related entries in the keychain and reinstalled the programs. Nothing seemed to help.

I also worked for WPP and am in the same situation. Nothing helps! Did you find a solution @su1mi (su1mi) ? The lic removal key tool did nothing for me.

        Hello David,
for me, the License Removal Tool did the job.
There are some other forum threads about removing manually some files, e.g. in the “Application Support” folder - this has apparently worked for others.
        Hope that helps.

        Good luck!

    Hi, @su1mi (su1mi)

I’m glad that worked! Microsoft support was the next thing I was going to suggest.

Have a nice rest of the day!

Thanks @su1mi (su1mi) . Did you remove Office apps completely before running the license removal tool? For me there are no Teams files in the library / cache or keychain (even with Teams installed which I do not understand).
