During self-service registration, is it possible to validate an attribute against an external directory prior to user creation with, for example, API?
An example would be user enters employee ID during sign up flow, check if employee ID exists in some database, returns valid, allows user creation to continue.
Not sure where to categorize this.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find information about how to achieve your inquiry but I would assume that this could be achieved through a custom implementation by using a custom page:
