vn4kc (vn4kc) asked a question.

I am reporting users Location log in for OKTA on mobile device showing different location

We are in Addison, TX close to Dallas, TX, and when we request a push it shows location as Cedar Rapids and this is creating some issue with out users. We currently use spectrum for our internet and when looking to the internet what is my Ip address the location shows as Dallas, Tx or Addison, Tx. Not Cedar Rapids.

We also have Zscaler in our laptops.

    Hi @vn4kc (vn4kc),

Thank you for posting on Okta community page!

I have done some research on my end and I have managed to find out that the location showed on the Okta Verify app depends on the information received by Okta when requesting the push. Okta uses Maxmind as a Geolocation provider and as per the bellow documentation the provider is not 100% accurate, this being a reason why the location might be inconsistent:

Additionally, I would advise to check the system logs and see if the correct location is shown there for when the push was performed because if the same location is showed as on the Okta Verify app then the issue might reside on what data Okta receives from the client used to send the push. You can also try to capture a Wireshark trace to look at the IPs that are sent through this process.

I hope the above information is useful!
