attempted to reset a user's pw through Okta, received the "unable to sign in" error, also attempted the change through our AD server, kicked the user to the pw reset screen and then did not save the new password -- please advise

Thank you for posting, according the documentation when a password is reset, the original password does not expire in AD, have you tried your original password, if this still doesn't work could you try the following:
