PhilipC.60547 (Customer) asked a question.

Importing from LDAP - possible to ignore missing firstname?

We have got Okta configured to import from OpenLDAP. By default, Okta *insists* on all users having values for the givenName and surname attributes.

Is there any way to change this so that givenName is optional? The fact that the import just "silently" fails leaves us scratching our heads when someone cannot access, say, Atlassian Cloud even though they seem to be visible there.

Thank you for reaching out to us!

In order to change the type of an attribute to be optional, follow the next steps:

Inside your tenant and logged as an administrator, go to:

Directory integrations --> select the specific integration (Ldap/AD) --> Provisioning --> Settings --> "To Okta "--> scroll down and select "Go to profile editor", look for the attribute, once the attribute is selected uncheck the "Attribute required" field and save the changes.

You can check the following link if needed:

    https://help.okta.com/en/prod/Content/Topics/users-groups-profiles/usgp-first-last-optional.htm

To further troubleshoot I would suggest to open a case at support@okta.com

    Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, I had already reconfigured Okta in the way specified in the article you've linked to and it hasn't helped. I think it is something on the LDAP-import side rather than the Okta profile side. I've raised a support case now.
