ovhg7 (ovhg7) asked a question.

Why OKTA username field is read-only in Personal Information.

I just took a trail in OKTA. Now I wanted to change the username which I use for login. But the OKTA username field alone read-only as in below screenshot. Please check and update us. Thank you!

    Hi Aravindhan,

This is Marius with Okta support. The username is read-only on the personal settings tab because it's set to read-only by default on the Okta user profile. If you want to change the end-user permissions for the username (or for any other attribute) you will need to go on the Admin dashboard - Directory - Profile Editor - edit the Okta user profile - find the username attribute and click on the info button next to it - change the permission to read-write if needed (see screenshot below)

    Thank you,

    Hello Marius,

we also want to allow our costumers to change their Username (login) in self-service. However, the solution you proposed did not work for us.

We set User permission to 'Read-Write' in the username attribute of the Okta default profile and made sure that the attribute is sourced by Okta.

However, it turns out that the username is still read-only for the costumer, like in the screenshot from Aravindhan above.

Is there anything else that might prevent the attribute from being editable?

    Thank you,

    Stefan
