w0s5e (w0s5e) asked a question.

Okta Verify with neither Android nor iOS

How does Okta Verify work for non Android and iOS devices? I've browsed around and as far as I can tell there isn't even a version of Okta Verify for desktops and laptops.

So if I have neither Android nor iOS phone how do I authenticate?

Does that mean that a site that chooses to implement authentication with Okta Verify needs to buy phones for all users?
  • Hi @w0s5e (w0s5e) - this has come up a few times on the community forum in the last 2 weeks. There is a future roadmap item called Okta FastPass to address the use case where you want Okta Verify on desktops and laptops that are Windows and MacOs.

I'm trying to find a way for someone to authenticate when they don't have a phone with Android or iOS. It seems odd that buying a phone for all users is the expected solution - I hope I'm missing something.

If the solution is to provide a desktop Okta Verify then please ensure that there is a version that runs on Linux.

      Thank you.

The desktop version of Okta Verify can only be used to register a desktop for FastPass. You will not be able to use it to satisfy an MFA prompt.

Okta supports several other factor types besides Okta Verify. For desktops, there are several third-party utilities that are compatible with the Google Authenticator factor type.

Why not use SMS auth as a second factor for these types of devices?
