Setting up ADFS though Okta

We are experiencing an issue with Teams giving a 4c7 error to users within our organization. After speaking with Microsoft, they stated that we needed to enable ADFS on our onprem server. I see that there is an option within Okta for ADFS and wanted to get some guidance of setting this up for our organization.

You didn't describe your environment, so I'm assuming you're using Teams as part of an O365 integration with your Okta org, possibly with delegated authentication back to your on-premises AD domain. Close?

Don't accept that advice from Microsoft. Unless you already have ADFS installed and your users are authenticating into Teams via ADFS, then that advice from Microsoft is just wrong. Based on the quick research I just did for that 4c7 error, it's something that is commonly caused by ADFS and the fact that it disables forms-based authentication by default. In that specific scenario, yes, you have to modify the on-premises ADFS configuration to enable forms-based auth, which will resolve the issue. But if you're not already authenticating through ADFS, then that can't be the cause of those errors. They're basically telling you that you have to install ADFS and then switch your federation for O365/Teams from Okta to ADFS, just so you can implement the fix in ADFS.

Our O365 tenant has been federated with Okta for at least 5 years, and we've been using Teams ever since it was added to our Office Pro Plus subscription. I've never encountered that 4c7 error, so I don't have a fix for you at this time. My advice is to push back on Microsoft, tell them that installing ADFS is not a solution. If you haven't already, open a case with Okta and get their advice. If neither of them has a quick fix, get them both together with you on a conference call and hash it out. Force them to come up with a solution that works for you, without the need to install another product.

    Good luck!
