Okta Universal Sync with Office 365 Exchange Hybrid. Whats the deal?

I need to hear from people that have done Hybrid Exchange with Okta Univeral Sync.

There is no definitive documentation I can find that discusses Hybrid exchange combined with Okta Universal Sync. Before we used Okta, we had Centrify. The directory synchronization for Centrify only syncs as the Okta equivalent of Univeral Sync.

We migrated to Okta very easily and recently converted from Office365 ProPlus to Office365 E3. We are preparing to migrate to Office 365 as a hybrid deployment for our email.

It seems based on what I am reading that if using a hybrid Exchange deployment, there are scenarios where Office 365 needs to write back to Exchange Attributes in Active Directory.

I would like to know how are people going around this issue? We are only using a hybrid deployment to migrate away from Exchange; we are never going to issue local mailboxes again. If that's the case, is there any reason to require Office 365 to write back to our Active Directory?

For other people going back prior to Univeral Sync. Some used License/Role management only combined with DirSync. Leaving Okta only for authentication. Others used User/Universal sync and used Dirsync ONLY for write-back (even though its not supported).

Ideally, I would want to leave the status quo and not have to Sync back unless I must. What has everyone done?
