oktas.01594 (Customer) asked a question.

Automate email creation if there are conflicts from workday to Okta.

Hi,

We have workday as a Master and have implemented new hire workflow through it . At present, we are creating usernames and emails in Okta in the format : firstname.lastname@company.com. Now, if we have a user with same firstname and lastname, Okta throws an error in the import tab of workday application, as it cannot provision the user with the same username. How to deal with this situation? Can Okta check if there is an existing username in the system, if yes then change it to something defined by us like firstinitial+lastname@company.com in the profile editor. I just want to know if we can build a custom expression in the profile editor to check if there is an existing email in the system if yes change it to something else.

Thanks,

Sashidhar Siddamsetty.

  • Hello Sashidhar,

In this particular scenario, we do not have a custom expression that would check the existing usernames for your users. Okta does not have the ability to check the existing username when they are being imported and to change the format automatically. When users are imported from an external application this will result in a conflict and not confirm the user.

You could add this as an feature request in our Idea section as I think this will be a good feature.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, I would recommend to open a case with Support.

    Thank You,
