Editing Imported Groups from Applications with Provisioning

In Okta's documentation (https://help.okta.com/en/prod/Content/Topics/Directory/Directory_Groups.htm) it states that you can import groups from applications that have provisioning enabled, but you cannot edit the membership of those imported groups from Okta. What is the reasoning for this? Is there any workaround for this? Our customers would like to manage their group membership from Okta, but there is no easy workaround for them do so if they are working with an imported group.

  • Hello Adam,

Thanks for posting your inquiry in Okta Community Portal.

Okta will only read this groups, because the groups are mastered by the application. If you want to make changes in this groups, you have to make them in the application and run an import.

    Thank you,

    Alexandru,

Thank you for responding to my question and explaining to me the current functionality. Is there anyway that I can transfer the mastery of an imported group from the application to Okta? I want to avoid the issue of having to recreate the group in Okta in order to have Okta manage the group.
